Planning a honeymoon can be an overwhelming task, especially when you also have to go through the hectic wedding planning process before that. It’s always a great first step to choose the destination/region where you would like to spend your honeymoon. Ideally, beach honeymoons are the best way to relax after the wedding celebration and that’s what this article is all about. From the coral reef beaches of Fiji to the secluded pink beaches of the Caribbean, here are the best places to go on a honeymoon.
10. Fiji

Surrounded by coral reefs and filled with warm lagoons and beautiful remote beaches, the islands of Fiji are always a great choice when it comes to planning your honeymoon. The remoteness of Fiji is another great reason why this is where you should spend your honeymoon. Fiji is 4,500 km away from Australia and over 6,000 km away from the US. This makes it the ultimate get-away-from-everything destination.
9. Antigua

If I would have to describe Antigua in 5 words, I would use “upscale activities and lavish resorts” which is something you would definitely want for your honeymoon. When talking about a romantic walk on a pink sand beach, there are only a handful of places in this world that can compare to Antigua. No matter how many countries you visited before, chances are- you still will be impressed by everything Antigua has to offer.
8. Aruba

Aruba is nicknamed “One Happy Island” for a good reason. With its location outside the hurricane belt, Aruba gets the most sunny days per year in all of the Caribbean. Aruba is a perfect mix of beautiful beaches and adventure, which makes it a great choice for young couples. If you want to relax and enjoy your first days as a married couple together on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Aruba is the right place for you!

7. Indonesia

There’s a good reason why Indonesia is always at the top of the list of the most visited countries in the world. And while most tourists that go to Indonesia head straight to Bali, there are plenty of other beautiful beaches and isolated islands to explore. In fact, Indonesia has 17,508 islands to choose from! You can take a Komodo sailing trip, go on a volcano safari, consider visiting the world’s biggest Buddhist temple… There are many things that make Indonesia one of the most romantic destinations on Earth. The Indonesian Archipelago is for its shimmering beaches, loveable islands, secluded spots, and hilly terrains with lush nature.

6. Belize

Even though it’s more famous as a tax-free haven, Belize is also an unreal tropical paradise. No wonder it’s turning into an increasingly popular honeymoon destination. It’s a great place to enjoy long walks on the beach, indulge in a world-class diving experience, explore some Mayan ruins, and trek through the lush rainforests of the island. After all that stress you went through when planning for the wedding, Belize is the ultimate place to relax in a laid-back environment.
5. Costa Rica

Filed with rainforests and adventure behind every corner, Costa Rica established itself as a leading destination when it comes to sustainable travel. In fact, choosing where to spend your honeymoon in Costa Rica might be difficult. There are so many places in Costa Rica to choose from but don’t worry, this country has it all – from white sandy beaches through luxurious retreats to adventurous activities to indulge in.
4. St. Vincent & the Grenadines

St. Vincent & the Grenadines has some of arguably the most secluded islands in the Caribbean. But don’t expect that to stay that way for too long. This small country which consists of 32 beautiful remote islands got its first international airport in 2017. After this, the number of tourists is likely to increase in the next few years.
3. Tahiti

The largest island of French Polynesia is oftentimes undeservingly passed over by newly-married couples. A lot more people choose Bora Bora because of its dreamy lagoon and the fact there are so many exciting things to do in Bora Bora but many people don’t realize Tahiti is just as romantic as the most popular honeymoon destinations and should definitely be on your list. Whether you want to relax in a secluded resort, sunbathe on some stunning beaches or even go for an exciting night out, Tahiti has it all.

2. Maldives

There aren’t too many things I can tell you about the Maldives that you haven’t already heard. If you want to get away from anything with your new partner, definitely consider the Maldives, an archipelago with endless stretches of white sandy beaches and an abundance of marine life. No wonder diving in the Maldives is something that makes it to the top of most people’s travel bucket list!
You can take a kayak to a secluded island, take long romantic walks on the beach, or just stay in your undersea bedroom with a glass ceiling. Despite the increased number of visitors, the Maldives still remains a secluded destination because each resort provides a great amount of privacy and an extravagant service and amenities. Warning: this might make you never to want to go back home.
1. Sri Lanka

When Marco Polo visited Sri Lanka for the first time, he described it as the finest island of its size in the world and I think that description is quite appropriate. Honeymoons in Sri Lanka have been popular among Indian couples for years but is recently turning into an up-and-coming tourist destination for Europeans and tourists from around the globe.
The number of people who choose Sri Lanka as a holiday destination keeps increasing but what makes it a real hit for newly married couples is the fact that they can have a five-star honeymoon experience without breaking the bank. With its postcard-like white sand beaches, turquoise waters that softly kiss the shore, and its authentic traditional festivals, planning your Sri Lanka itinerary can get quite hard because there are so many activities one can indulge in on the island.
Finally, if you want to prepare better for traveling as a couple, my friends Mike & Anne wrote a book for National Geographic called Ultimate Journeys for Two, filled with a lot of useful tips and suggestions for adventurous couples.
If you would have to choose a honeymoon destination today, which one of these would you choose? Or maybe you have some other suggestions? Let me know in the comments.
