Many people think that the perfect honeymoon will cost you a lot but if you ask us, that’s just not the case. You don’t have to fly off to some exotic tourist destination on the other side of the world. There are plenty of amazing cheap honeymoon destinations in the US where you can have an unforgettable honeymoon trip without breaking the bank. So, whether you’re looking for a single destination trip or a multi-stop honeymoon road trip, in this post, we’ll cover some of the best budget-friendly honeymoon destinations in the United States. We divided the destinations into several different categories, including wine destinations, isolated islands and beach towns, mountain destinations, lake towns, and deserts.
San Juan Island, Washington
We start off this list of the best cheap honeymoon destinations in the US with San Juan Islands. When speaking about the most beautiful islands in the US, San Juan Island in Washington is often forgotten despite being the nature lover’s dream. The island is located on the north-western part of the Pacific Coast and is known for its jaw-dropping landscapes, combining towering mountains, rugged beaches, and abundant wildlife.
It’s one of the rare islands in the US where you can spot harbor seals, bald eagles, porpoise, and orca whales at one place. There are a handful of romantic, cozy cabins and a lot of great activities for couples. You can relax at the beach go kayaking, surfing, or you can browse art galleries and museums and dine at farm-to-table restaurants.
How To Reach
The island has its own airport, Friday Harbor Airport.
Best Time To Visit
The warmest months are June, July, and August but these are also the busiest. That’s why, in my opinion, the best time to visit is in April-May or September-October.

McMinnville, Oregon
If you’re wondering why should you visit McMinnville in Oregon, I got two words for you; Pinot Noir. McMinnville is a part of Willamette Valley, one of the most underrated wine regions in the States. With more than 700 picturesque vineyards, the region is the country’s leading producer of Pinot Noir. The charming town of McMinnville combines this with the idyllic countryside of the Northwest, offering honeymooners the best from both worlds. The town is surrounded by mountains and rivers and its geography closely resembles that of Burgundy, one of Europe’s premier wine destinations.
The town is unfrequented and under most tourists’ radars and with an average nightly hotel price between $110 and $120, it’s one of the most budget-friendly honeymoon destinations in the United States.
How To Reach
McMinnville has a municipal airport but that’s mainly used for personal aircraft, private jets, and helicopter rides. The nearest airport with commercial flights is Portland’s PDX (it has international flights too) which’s roughly 1 hour away. Cannon Beach, Oregon
Located on the Northern Oregon Coast, Cannon Beach is a picturesque town with a wild, rugged coastline, pristine beaches, and a birdwatcher’s paradise. You’ll find large colonies of seabirds on the offshore rocks but you can also see white bald eagles, pelicans, Roosevelt elk, and if you’re here at the right time of the year you can see one of the biggest seasonal gray whale migrations that take place every spring and winter. In addition to this, there are a lot of exciting trekking routes in the area that lead through lush, old-growth forests that populate the edge of the coast.
How To Reach
The nearest airport to Cannon Beach is Portland International Airport which is roughly 90 miles away.
Best Time To Visit
Based on the weather, the best time to visit is from late July to early September but if you want to avoid the crowds, you can consider visiting in late May/early June.

Sonoma, California
Sonoma is one of our favorite California hidden gems. Sonoma might not be home to some of California’s prettiest beaches but with more than 400 local wineries, the town is one of California’s major wine-producing hubs. In near proximity, you’ll also find 50 regional parks, all of which are open to visitors and most don’t have an entrance fee. So, if you’re an outdoorsy, wine-loving couple, this is an ideal place for you. You can also drive up the coast along Highway 1 and discover some pristine beaches, and if you’re lucky even see some sea lions.
And if you get bored of Sonoma, San Francisco and Napa Valley are a short drive away.
How To Reach
The closest airport to Sonoma County is the county’s own Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS), with daily flights on three major carriers.
Best Time To Visit
The best time to visit is between June and October. Around this time of the year, the weather is at its finest, but this is also the time of year when the crowds are the thickest. But in my opinion, you can also make the most out of your trip by visiting in May or November.

Sitting on the border between Nevada and California in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain, Lake Tahoe is one of the biggest lake in the country and definitely one of its most beautiful ones. The area is also becoming increasingly popular among honeymooners because it offers everything you’d need for a romantic holiday. There are sunny beaches, beautiful mountains and hiking trails, fine dining, world-class entertainment (before and after dark), and a range of romantic accommodation options. Additionally, if you’re planning your honeymoon during the winter, you’ll be happy to hear that there are some amazing ski resorts in near proximity to the lake.

Havasupai, Arizona
If you’re a fan of remote, isolated places, you’ll love the Havasupai Indian Reservation. The reservation is located near Grand Canyon National Park and is a protected area that happens to be home to some of the most breathtaking nature and scenery in the United States. This makes Havasupai an ideal honeymoon destination for couples who enjoy outdoor activities.
One of the highlights of the area is definitely Havasupai Falls, a pristine, azure waterfall that can only be reached via a 10-mile trek. Because the area is protected, don’t expect to find many tourist facilities, and make sure you’re comfortable with camping throughout the trip as the only accommodation option within the reservation (aside from the campgrounds) is the Havasupai Lodge.

In addition to this, the town is surrounded by mountains and high desert mesas but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any rivers around where you can experience world-class water sports activities like fly fishing, rafting, kayaking, and paddleboarding. This accounts for a unique landscape that offers visitors scenic hiking trails and stunning desert landscapes at the same place! Oh yeah, most of which are completely free of charge!

Granted, Kiawah Island isn’t as affordable as some other places we mention here but compared to similar resort towns that offer similar value, we firmly believe that Kiawah Island deserves a mention on this list of the best cheap honeymoon destinations in the US.
