The City of the Dead sounds intriguing. From both its history and the current day situation seems like a real winner. Russia in general has much to offer. Surrounded by many Ruskies now here in Bangkok 😉 Signing off from Thailand.

Ryan, absolutely. Russia has so much to offer. And outside of Moscow and St. Petersburg, everything is really cheap. Yeah, I remember meeting a lot of them during my time in Thailand 😀

Hi Mel, thank you for your comment. Indeed, there are a lot of amazing, not-so known places in Russia. Altai is one of my personal favorites too.

Wow! I have always wanted to go to Russia and to be honest, I never really knew where to start! But you’re list is impeccable and some of the images are stunning! Makes me want to go even more. I travel everywhere with my daughter. In your opinion, what’s a good age for a child to go to Russia. Should I wait until she is a teenager? She’s 9 now.

Hi Amy, thank you for your comment and your kind words. I’m glad you enjoyed the article. Russia really does have a lot of amazing hidden gems. Well, I think that even if you guys decide to go now it won’t be a bad idea. Just keep in mind that some of the places on this list are freezing during winter! Maybe it’s better to consider a visit during the summer, between May and September. 🙂

This was really an excellent read! I’ve never been to Russia, and so loved reading about these places. That church is spectacular! Would love to see it for myself.

I think people tend to overlook just how amazing Russia is. I’m sure there are even more places that even I don’t know about 😀
