Greece is home to 10.7 million people. Around 98% of the total population consists of ethnic Greek. The main minority groups are the Turks, Albanians, Macedonians, Bulgarians, Armenians, and Jews among others.

Geography

With a territory of 131,957 square kilometer, Greece is 15th largest country in Europe and shares its border with Albania, Macedonia and Bulgaria. Greece is 80% mountainous and have 6000 island and islets scattered in the Ionian and Aegean Seas, but only 230 island are inhabited.

Climate

Greece has a predominately Mediterranean climate is temperate and continental with four different seasons. The winters (November- February) are mild and wet and temperatures almost never fall below 0 while the summers are hot and dry with the average temperature ranging between 32 and 35 °C and up to 40°C on the shore.

Greece is a country with an advanced high-income economy. The average monthly income is between 950 and 1,050 Euros per month. Hence, Greece isn’t the most budget-friendly country out there but backpackers can still survive with around $40 per day, while mid-range travelers spend between $70 and $100 per day on average.
